Field Trip Thursday: Job Fair

Good evening friends! Today morning we had a good field trip to visit a Job Fair in the North York Memorial Hall in the North York Civic Center.
First, we joined Joseph at Job Fair. He showed us around the place.
Then, we participated in some workshops that helped us with job searching, resume writing, and so on. We also  visited different sections of the Job fair and got some information about companies, factories and organizations that were exhibiting.
After that we went to the public library upstairs and Joseph introduced us various parts of  the library including the ESL section. It was a very nice and helpful tour.
This field trip was very interesting and
useful.
I really appreciate Joseph 's setting up this program and guiding us and I would like to thank him.

About Tuesday afternoon activity:
Co-workers!
This week, we learned and discussed about job, job seeking, job fair, job search, work places and etc. On
Tuesday afternoon, we had an interesting conversation class in related to this matter guided by Mr. Pitter, one of our teachers.
First he gave us a handout and explained about it.There was 2 columns in that paper. In first column, we read some information about a staff known as Felecia and also second column was about Anna, her co-worker. In each column, we read some of their characteristics. They were different together in many tips like types of working, team working activities, respect to company policy, time spending, years of experiences and so on.
we made 4 separate groups. Members of each group read and discussed about these characteristics and information.
After that, i
n each group, we tried to answer some questions about these two co-workers' as their Colleagues, and also as their bosses. Then Mr.pitter wrote each group's answers on whiteboard. So we compered and continued to discuss about answers and reason of each answer.
Actually those questions were very interesting and to answering them, we need to read information carefully and concentrate on them deeply. Also, this activity was about job place culture and working place atmosphere, commitments of employees and types of working styles and so on. All class members participated in this program very actively and seriously.

Anna and Felicia!

co-workers

Mr. Pitter Thank you very much for your nice teaching and guiding. I really appreciate you. I learned a lot.

About an interesting class activity on Monday afternoon.Debate session!
we had an attractive debate session in link 4-5 class yesterday. This interesting activity was held by Ms Sooman, one of our teachers. I have already watched some debate sessions in BBC channel about issues such as global warming, racism and also some elections debates like president Obama's debate sessions. But I have never participated in a debate.

We made 4 separate groups in class and in each group, the members of group discussed about a topic. So we have 4 separate  topics as follows:
1.Mercy killing(euthanasia); yes or no?
2. One person can change the

world!
3.Summer is the best season!
4. The world  have changed in recent years. Is it better or worse than 20 years ago?
So the members of each group spoke together and
discussed about the group topic and each member give some reasons for their agreement or disagreement about topic. After some discussion, each group have to declare and express their own presentation. In each group 2 people spoke as agreeing and disagreeing with their own group topic. During the groups presentation, I was writing the important points and tips on white board as a summarizing the debate.
My group 's topic was number
2. One person can change the world! I was definitely agree with this matter and I gave some examples about it like campaigns and efforts of Martin Luther king and Mahatma Gandhi as great leaders who changed their countries and also the insights and attitudes of world's people. I posted this important video to you.

After that, the class discussed about all presentations.I think it was very interesting and attractive debate session activity for the first time....Thanks all and have a nice day.
Dear Mrs Sooman, I really appreciate you to hold and guild this nice activity.

Thank you and, may God bless and protect you.

Monday's Assignment

Assignment 1. Check out class policies—with a partner, compare these with workplace culture.
The
class policies is in this link:http://425window.blogspot.ca/p/policies.html
and I found some information about workplace culture as follows, so the comparison is easy.
Workplace Culture Definition
The concept of a workplace culture encompasses many different characteristics of a business. Culture has visible components in the way that a business looks and how employees dress, but it really thrives in the attitudes of employees, in the setting of goals and in the communication of business values to workers and customers. The business owner sets the pace for creating, defining and refining the company culture.
Management Styles
Most workplaces are a reflection of the personality and management style of the founder and management team. Some may run a tight ship with a buttoned-down attitude while others may give employees a lot of flexibility. Understanding your management style helps you to find employees that fit in well with the workplace culture you are trying to foster. You may want employees who prefer a very structured environment or you may want to hire workers who are creative and comfortable being self-directed.
Business Values
Business values are often formulated into an official statement of values that is shared with employees and clients. Value statements mention traits and goals like honesty, hard work, customer satisfaction, safety and integrity. Business owners need to decide what is most important to the business and communicate this to workers. More than just talking about values, entrepreneurs need to lead by example and take the value statement to heart as a mission statement for the business.
Physical Environment
The look and feel of a workplace is another reflection of the workplace culture. Some businesses prefer an open workspace designed for collaboration while others may go for a more traditional office or cubicle environment. Even the colors used in an office or store can make a point about a business culture. Bright contrasting colors reflect a dynamic environment while sedate shades indicate a traditional feel. Think about the image you want to project to employees and customers when choosing colors, furnishings and office design for your business.
Employees
Workplace culture only goes as far as employees are willing to invest in it. Culture needs to be instilled in workers from the first day they come on board. Take a look around your office or store. Do employees seem happy? Do they treat customers with attention and respect? Go over your company mission and values statement, request feedback from employees and focus on creating a customer-centric atmosphere. Recognize employees for reaching milestones, completing a big project or achieving customer service goals. This helps to create a positive orkplace culture
Dress Code

A dress code is one of the most noticeable manifestations of workplace culture. A law firm may require formal business attire every day while a technology start-up may have employees dressed in Bermuda shorts and flip-flops. The dress code you choose depends on the image that you want to project to customers, the safety requirements of your work and the comfort of your employees. Casual days can also be used as a bonus or reward for workers.

Assignment 2.A summary of your work life

My work life
After high school, I got admission in Tehran University of Medical Sciences and I got a B.S (Bachelor of Science) in physiotherapy. I worked in the hospital and a medical clinic as a physiotherapist for 10 years. But after this experience of working with many types of patients, I found that most of patients’ problems are not in their bodies but in their minds! So I tried to think about them and search the most important reasons for their problems and I found that they were related to their minds’ activities and their types of thinking. So I decided to change my subject and research about a new subject known as “Thinking Knowledge”. After some years of researching and studying about this new knowledge, I started working  in an educational organization and  then I taught  this new interesting knowledge. After 2 years’ teaching I traveled to India to continue my education , 5 years ago. I got a bachelor in education (B.Ed) in Pune University and  a Master in administrative Education (M.Ed) in Andrews University.
After these experiences I immigrated to Canada and just now I am trying  to improve my English language skills for finding a job.

Thanks.
Assignment  3 and 4.
I listened to
comprehension about job hunting and I checked out job fair in Toronto. I think I like to visit it.
Thanks and have a nice day.
